International film camp to promote anti-discrimination, anti-racism, and tolerance
This 12-day work camp will bring together high school students of various ethnicities from neighboring countries of Eastern and Western Europe which have been subject to inter-ethnic conflict.
Through visual materials we will first introduce the students to the concepts of discrimination and the way it is perpetuated, and we will show ways other nations (such as the United States) have dealt with racism over the centuries, and how much progress they have made in the last 20 years.
The students will then tell their own stories about racism and discrimination, and will come up with their own ideas about ways to combat them. Under the guidance of professionals, they will be taught to use a video camera and lights, and will be shown how to develop their ideas into short film screenplays.
The students will then shoot their stories on video, and edit the raw footage using state-of-the-art software. The final products will be shown to the group at the end of the class. The best works will be selected for submission to film festivals and will be broadcast on local television stations.
