EuropaGO, the website for young European citizens aged 10 to 14 years old, has just released two new fun games for the 'back to school' period. The two new games are the 'Memory Game' and 'Europe in Harmony', and can be good taster activities for getting children interested in European issues. The games are particularly handy for introducing European topics in geography, citizenship and music.
Memory Game
This is a traditional children's game, updated for the digital age. Players have to find the matching flags of the 25 European Member States hidden behind the cards, while keeping an eye on the ticking clock. The faster players can find the pairs, the more points they win. There are two levels of difficulty: normal and expert. There's also a good fact page explaining the origins of the flags of the European countries.
Europe in Harmony
Do you know the anthems of the European countries? This fun game will teach you all about them! First, players choose a country. Then they listen to the anthem, and try to memorise the notes. After that, it's up to the player to click on the correct notes on the piano using the mouse. Each correct note is shown in green, while mistakes are shown in red. The more daring players can choose to play without looking at the notes. Accompanying the game is a full explanatory page that gives details on the national anthems' composers and origins.
For all the games, pupils can still create a login and password to be able to save games and high scores, and if they are lucky, to be in the top 20 winners list!
The site, which is available in 11 languages, is offered by the European Commission, and aims to help young people learn more about Europe. It already contains 4 other games: the Euro game, the Quiz, the Europe Puzzle and the Time Machine. The two new games will bring the total number of games on the site to 6.
