Five Members of the European Parliament were guests in a myEUROPE chat
On 11 May 2005, five Members of the European Parliament accepted to celebrate Europe Day in an on-line chat with 18 schools from 13 countries, namely Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey. The guests answered schools’ questions from the main seat of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The chat topic was not only about 9 May 1950, when Robert Schuman made his historical declaration on Europe and its future, but also about the needs and expectations of young people in Europe. Their questions covered educational policies, the environment, EU enlargement, the European labour market, cultural identity and the EU's role in the world.
One of the participating teachers, Tzvetan Naydenov from Bulgaria, said: "Today was a special day we have not had for months. My students could not believe they got answers from the Members of European Parliament!"
