“Painting Europe” and “Holding Hands” are two myEUROPE activities which were active and opened for contributions on our website for about five years, from 2000 to 2005. Now, they are closed, so no contributions are expected. The school contributions are archived and available under the hyperlinks “List of contributions”. The texts describing the activities are kept in the original versions. They are available in English, French and German, as they were published during that period.
Painting Europe
The participating classes experienced other expression forms than words, namely colours and shapes, to convey feelings and basic attributes of their local communities, in a European context. The activity gave participants a deeper understanding of themselves, their families and their communities, by transposing significant events and places in valuable art compositions.
More than 800 students from 14 countries took part in this activity. They painted self-portraits, including personal, local and national elements in such a way to illustrate that children of Europe, from north to south, from east to west, are inter-connected.
