In European countries Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year. It is a time for giving and a celebration to share with family and friends. In some countries, St Nicholas announces Christmas time, which in some other countries lasts until after the New Year. Christmas itself remains a time for reflecting on the past and thinking about the year ahead.
We invite participants to describe a Christmas custom or tradition. The description should have around 300 words and may cover not only Christmas as such, but also other related customs and traditions taking place before or after.
The activity aims at encouraging young people to learn to preserve local cultural heritages while sharing and publishing Christmas customs and traditions on the Web. The activity may be a cross-curricular lesson involving language learning, social sciences, history, art, music and ICT (Information Computer Technologies).
Age group: 10-20
How to take part: Participating classes select and describe a local custom or tradition, taking place around Christmas. Two photos may accompany the text.
