Launched by European Schoolnet in March 2000, the myEUROPE project aims to bring together schools around European topics through active citizenship. In October 2003, the myEUROPE network welcomed the 2,000th school: Primary school GTVS Reichsapfelgasse 30, from Austria.
The project Web site is a rich source of activities, news, resources and projects and helps teachers raise their pupils' awareness of what it means to be a young citizen in Europe.
Last September myEUROPE run a survey in English whose goal was to evaluate its first three years. More than 200 teachers from 35 European countries responded.
The teachers represent almost all school subjects at all levels, from pre-school education to higher and vocational education. They rated the quality of the content and expressed their needs and interests on how the project can cover school subjects through activities and resources.
According to them, the myEUROPE Network proves that collaborative learning may be part of school life in Europe, from north to south and east to west, regardless of differences and obstacles. Violeta Tsoneva, a member of the Advisory Board, tells us:
As the myEUROPE activities are built in the curriculum, they enhanced my students' English language skills as well as their awareness of issues under discussion, such as the EU, ecology, civil rights, school futurism, current school problems, environment etc. This happened both prior to their communication online as well as during the different chats they participated in.
