myEUROPE has grown to 8000 schools. In November 2007, Volker Wacker, who teaches at the Hans-Furler-Gymnasium Oberkirch, registered his school that became the 8000th school registered with myEUROPE.
Volker Wacker tells us that he has heard about myEUROPE, its portal and mailing list from some colleagues in other countries, while he was looking for school partners in the UK. Volker would like to implement and develop a school collaborative project that will involve a team of European schools.
The myEUROPE project welcomes all schools in Europe to register on the portal. Only registered schools have privileged access to a set of services such as newsletters and a mailing list. Once the schools’ email addresses are subscribed to these services, teachers can post calls for collaboration or ask for help or advice.
The myEUROPE project and its Web portal were launched in May 2000 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. Year by year the project has had various focuses that changed from encouraging teachers from former candidate countries to communicate with peers in the member states to supporting the integration of ICT-based activities into the curriculum.
Looking back at what myEUROPE has so far achieved, it would be worth mentioning its network of 8000 schools that contribute to highlighting the wealth of cultures, languages and countries in Europe. It would be also worth mentioning that these schools use myEUROPE as a platform that enables teachers and their classes to communicate and share knowledge and practices around two themes: European citizenship and intercultural education.
