Susanne Pratscher and some of her students from VBS-HAKIII Schoenborngasse were invited by the European Union Representation in Vienna to participate in a video conference on May 31, 2005 with Jan Figel’, Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism.
We had read the text before at school and had also prepared a number of questions, although we were well aware, that only one or two of our questions would be answered in the course of the conference.
The video conference was scheduled in the morning and, as we were at the EU representation ahead of time, we could already post our favourite questions before the beginning of the event. Jan Figél was then welcomed by representatives of the European Youth Portal and in the course of the next 70 minutes answered questions from various EU cities as well as from young people who were present in the Brussels studio.
We were very glad, that the second question which was chosen by the team there was one of ours: about the recognition of academic as well as vocational education of one country in all EU member states.
After the end of the video conference the students made use of the exceptional occasion to talk to Dr. Karl-Georg Doutlik, head of the Representation of the European Commission in Austria and Dr. Juergen Frieberger, head of the department of political press coverage in the same office.
Finally we shot a video for the myEUROPE website which had celebrated its 5th birthday in April 2005.
