Kossuth Lajos Primary School of Hatvan is found on the main square of the town , on Kossuth Square. The facade of the school has been announcing: ’Hatvan for public education’ since 1894. This institution was built with public contribution in eclectical style.
It has served education until now.

Hatvan is in the North-East of Hungary. The town which is situated in the western part of Heves County, at the feet of the Mátra hill and at the edge of the Great Hungarian Plain became the third biggest settlement of the county taking into consideration the number of its inhabitants. Being at the boarder of four counties is very advantageous for the town. This is why comparing with other towns with similar number of inhabitants Hatvan is said to have one of the most advantageous locations. The town's surrounding is abounding in natural beauties and it has the population of 23000 people. It can be considered as the "hall" of the capital. It is 60 km-s from Budapest.
For the 100 years anniversary of the foundation of our school we organized series of ceremonies in 1994. That year our school got its present name 'Kossuth Lajos Primary School'. We decided to organize 'Kossuth Days' on behalf of our eponym every year. In odd years we organize cultural programmes and in even years, there are sport shows, competitions and exhibitions. Our students took part and won prizes in competitions organized by the town and by other institutions of the county. In the last years students from our school got into the country finals in Physics, Chemistry and History. There are four sport circles for the sport lovers: football, handball, rithmic sport gymnastics and athletics We have had a workout centre for athletics since 1996. The most talented students of the town can do sport activities here.
Traditionally our school is specialized in teaching foreign languages. In our school children can learn English, German and French. We arranged an up-to-date language laboratory and a computer room. Students have the possibility of connecting to the Internet. Foreign languages, computer studies, home economics, crafts and maths for the 7th and 8th graders are taught in small groups. At the end of the 8th grade a lot of students who have English or German lessons five times a week can pass the Basic Level State Exam.
Our school has a tradition of organizing summer camps for the students. The teachers organize 3 camps every summer where children and adults can have a rest after the tiring school year. One or two day school trips are also organized in every class every year. We take the interested students walking in the hills 8-9 times in a year. We quiet often take our students to the theatre, too.
Our school has had a good relationship with foreign shools since 1995. The first group from our school went to our Italian twintown Tavarnelle Val di Pesa in 1995. The schools of these two towns exchange students every year. The students made friends and still write letters to each other. We also had students exchanges with our Finnish twintown Kokkola in 2004. In this nice old building there are 14 classrooms, 6 laboratories, one room for students fighting with difficulties and two gymnasiums provided for studying and teaching for 502 students and 35 teachers. We teach 6 to 14 years old students at our school.
Lessons begin at eight in the morning and finish at 12:30 or 1:30 in the afternoon. Students can have lunch at the school canteen. Some students stay at school even in the afternoon and they play or do their homework with the help of the teachers. Quiet a lot of students visit our school library where they can read books, play games, play chess, etc.
This month we issued a school newspaper called ' Nebuló' ( kid), so I hope there always will be somebody who wants to send an article to 'Myeurope'.

Hatvan észak-kelet Magyarorszégon található. Heves megye nyugati felében, a Mátra hegység lábánál, az Alföld peremén fekvő Hatvan népességszámát tekintve a megye harmadik legnagyobb települése, s helyzeti előnyeit csak fokozza, hogy négy megye határán található. Hatvant a hasonló méretű magyarországi települések közüli nem véletlenül tartják hazánk egyik legelőnyösebb fekvésű városának. A természeti szépségekben bővelkedő környezetben található, Budapesttől 60 kilométerre fekvő, 23 ezres lélekszámú város a főváros „előszobájának” is tekinthető.
Az iskola építését 1892-ben határozták el a település polgárai. Az épület homlokzatán 1894 óta olvasható: „HATVAN A TANÜGYNEK”. A közadakozásból megvalósult eklektikus stílusú intézmény mindmáig az oktatást szolgálja.
Iskolánk fennállásának 100. évfordulójára rendezett ünnepségsorozat alkalmával (1994) vette fel tanodánk Kossuth Lajos nevét. Ekkor határoztuk el, hogy minden évben névadónk tiszteletére Kossuth–napokat rendezünk, méghozzá úgy hogy a páratlan években kulturális, a páros években pedig sportbemutatókat, versenyeket tartunk és kiállításokat szervezünk.
Az öreg falak között tradíciókra épülő, de a mai kor követelményeinek is megfelelő oktató – nevelő munka folyik. Programunkban magasabb óraszámot kap az idegen nyelv tagozatos oktatása, melynek iskolánkban több évtizedes hagyománya van. Korszerű nyelvi labort és számítástechnika termet alakítottunk ki, ahol a Sulinet program keretében Internet csatlakozásra is lehetőség van. Az idegen nyelv, a számítástechnika, a háztartástan, a technika és a 7-8. osztályos matematika tanítása csoportbontásban történik. Müködik még iskolánkban matematika és kémia szakkör, énekkar és alapfokú nyelvvizsgára felkészítő szakkör.
Diákjaink mindig részt vesznek és eredményesen szerepelnek a város ill. a megye más intézményei által meghirdetett versenyeken, vetélkedőkön. Az elmúlt tanévekben országos döntőseink voltak fizikából, kémiából, történelemből.
Sporttevékenységünk – melyet az iskolai sportkör 4 sportcsoportjában folytatnak a tanulók – elismerésre méltó. Alátámasztják ezt a városi, a megyei versenyeken szerzett oklevelek, érmek és serlegek, valamint az atlétika és az aerobic sportág országos döntőiben elért helyezéseink. 1996 óta atlétika edzésközpont működik iskolánkban. Itt a városi iskolákból sportolhatnak a legtehetségesebb gyerekek. A munka színvonalát több országos bajnokság és bajnoki helyezés jelzi.
1995 óta rendelkezünk nemzetközi kapcsolatokkal. Ekkor indult első csoportunk az olasz testvérvárosba, Tavarnellébe, azóta diákjaink nyaranta cserealapon találkoznak és barátkoznak az olasz gyerekekkel. Finn testvérvárosunkkal, Kokkolával 2004-ben szerveztük meg a diákcserét.
Iskolánkban a táborozás régi hagyományokra tekint vissza. Ennek megfelelően minden nyáron nevelőink 3 tábort szerveznek, amelyekben a gyermekek és a felnőttek kipihenhetik a tanulás okozta fáradalmakat. Évente szervezünk 1-2 napos iskolai kirándulásokat is osztályonként, és rendszeresen visszük színházba a gyerekeket. Természetjáró csoportunk évente 8-9 alkalommal viszi a hegyekbe kirándulni a gyerekeket.
Ebben a szép régi épületben 14 osztályterem, 6 szaktanterem és és egy külön terem van a tanulási nehézségekkel küzdő gyerekek számára. 502 tanuló és 35 tanár van nálunk. 6-14 éves korú gyerekeket tanítunk. A tanítás reggel 8-kor kezdődik és délután 12:30-ig vagy 13:30-ig tart. A tanulók az iskolai menzán étkezhetnek. Délután napközis oktatás folyik. Elég sok tanuló látogatja az iskolai könyvtárat, ahol olvasgatnak, társasjátékot játszanak és sakkoznak.
Ebben az évben adtunk ki egy iskolai újságot. Remélem mindig lesz valaki a gyerekek közül, aki írni fog a ’Myeurope’ újságba.
