Two schools, one from Germany and one from Malta, joined to implement together a twinning project under ‘Together in Europe’, a Spring Day in Europe activity. The main goal of the project was to learn more about each other’s culture.
The two schools, Gauss Gymnasium Buch, in Berlin, Germany and M. Mortimer Junior Lyceum in St Lucija, Malta got in contact by e-mail after the two teachers in charge of the exchange met in Brussels, during a Spring workshop in November 2003.
Students from both schools started e-mailing each other, discussing a project topic, which could suit them better. They decided to choose the topic 'Buildings and architecture'. The idea was to highlight one or more famous buildings from the school region and then to create either a model in miniature or a collage.
German art students assisted by Sylvia Binger, a teacher of English and Art, and a member of the Spring Day board, provided the Maltese students with a number of beautiful models of their school and its surroundings. The photo one shows one of the clinics that belong to the big medical campus that Buch is famous for.
The students from Malta consisted of two groups. They were assisted by Sue Privitelli, a member of both myEUROPE Advisory and Spring board. One student group studied the German language and then exchanged e-mail with their German counterparts while the second group dealt with a model of the windmill that lies in the vicinity of the school. It is one of the very few windmills left on the island of Malta.
All the photos of the models were published on the National Spring Day web site of Malta, managed by Sue.
