Katalin Gardynik lives and teaches in Hatvan, Hungary. Together with her collegue, Ms Basa Ottóné and their students, they organised an art copetition which involved pieces of artwork from nine countries. The competition entries were exhibited in her home town.
The name of the exhibition was “ Together in Love” and had the motto „”Collect a flame from a great united fire”. We got about 800 drawings nine countries: Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia, Finland, Germany, England, Peru and Ukraine.
Participants used as forms of expression lines, forms and colours to convey a message of love and understanding. In her speech given at the award ceremony, Ms. Anna Jókai, the patron of the exhibition and a distinguished writer, mentioned that love is and should be everywhere around us: family, school and working place.
The judges’ choice was the picture entitled “The Flame of Friendship” (photo) which was painted by Fanni Szakonyi, from Szombathely, Hungary. All pictures which were exhibited got certificates and prizes such as scarves, canvas bags with the emblem „Together in love”, painting kits, commemorative plaques and books written by Anna Jókai, the exhibition patron.
The event brought students from nine countries closer together by sharing cultures through shapes, lines and colours. We believe that the event is a major contribution towards cultural understanding and tolerance.
