The European Commission's Directorate-General for Environment has launched a communications programme to raise awareness about climate change and how everyone can play a part in combating it.
The ‘You Control Climate Change’ campaign aims to give people a sense of personal responsibility by giving practical tips on how they can make small changes to their daily routine to achieve collectively significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. The programme seeks to raise awareness through different channels- television, online and outdoor advertising, a dedicated webite and a special schools programme.
The ‘You Control Climate Change’ website: http://www.climatechange.eu.com is the first non-specialist website devoted to climate change that is available in 19 languages. The site provides comprehensive information on the subject and a range of online tools which makes learning easy and fun- a carbon calculator, over 50 practical tips on how to make an impact, animated tools, a special school section-with tools such as video podcasts, brochures, quizes etc.
