The second European Youth Video Festival 'FOOD4U took place from 3-8 October 2006 in Italy. Some 4,000,000 secondary school students from 15 European countries had been invited to produce a video spot about the advantages of a healthy diet. Participating countries were: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxemburg, Norway, Holland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden and Hungary.
Finalist students from 35 schools were selected to represent each of the participating countries. Their prize was a trip with their teachers to the Marina di Camerota in Cilento where the FOOD4U award for the overall best video spot was judged by an international panel. Entries showed a high standard of humour and creativity and the award was won by the Scientific High School Emilio Segre’ Marano Di Napoli with the video spot “Always. ”
During their stay in the Cilento the students were kept busy with excursions to places of historical interest such as Padula and Paestum, visits to local industries and a boat trip to the Baia degli Infreschi.
At the same time another healthy food event was taking place nearby - for best posters by Italian primary school students - mangga bene - cresce meglio - Eat well to grow better.
FOOD4U was funded by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry and supported by Stefka Kitanova (President AEDE Bulgaria), Rod Holmes (AEDE UK), Dr Burkhard Mielke, (President ESHA), Margaret Rössler (National ESHA Coordinator, Germany) and Brigitte Parry (EUN).
The organisers intend to make it an annual event, and next year 5 more countries will be invited, making FOOD4U one of the largest and the most prestigious event for schools in Europe.
