Let a school be a place where children smile and not die!
The first school day in Latvia is the 1st September. This year the day was very special for our pupils and teachers from Viesite Secondary School, as the school building is renovated now.
It is so good to feel that somebody has made our second home, as we call the school, much comfortable and homelike. We are thankful to our municipality for that. The classrooms look sunnier because they have got new windows. And the floor has been changed, the walls have been painted in light colours.
On the first school day our pupils come to school with flowers in their hands. They are for their class-teachers and for their favourite teachers. We start the day with an assembly. We have guests there and the new teachers are introduced to the pupils. Then the class lesson starts.
This year we had two foreign guests - journalists from Denmark and the USA. In reality the purpose of their visit to Viesite was not our school. Their aim is to publish a book on Chernobyl as 2006 is the 20th anniversary of the accident in the atomic pile there. But we all were happy to see and talk to Mads Eskesen and Marianne Barisonek on the most beautiful school day here.
Now the everyday life has already started. And the keyword of it is "knowledge". We would like to wish our colleagues and pupils all over the world a good health, lot of energy and a great number of interesting activities this year.
