Vittoria Di Fabio teaches in Rome, Italy. She has involved her students in the previous Spring Day in Europe editions. In this article she describes the impact of both events on her students and also explains the unique way Spring Day in Europe brings schools closer to each other.
The Enlargement has involved thousands of teachers determining a wide horizon of people virtually working together, through different roads, but towards a unique goal. Everyone knows how difficult it is to combine theory and practice, to reinforce enthusiasm into strong belief, to organise different patterns within a single frame. Nevertheless, now we are 25 nations keeping our promises and performing our duties.
Every participating teacher in Spring Day in Europe knows that, after the 5th EU Enlargement, there is still so much to do. Spring Day has proven that such an initiative at a large scale helps the participating classes to make their voices heard in every corner of Europe, from the smaller villages to the bigger cities.
The Spring Day teachers have had valid pedagogical advisors to help them in case of integrating on-line and traditional classroom activities into the curriculum. Yet, most of the schools' everyday reality has not been conquered neither to the concept of unity in diversity, nor to the European citizenship. Most of our European youth still needs to be informed and prepared!
Both previous Spring Day editions were a unique kaleidoscope of initiatives aimed at making young people aware of their role in a new Europe with new needs. In this way the impact of such events on the participating classes is priceless in terms of basic skills needed for the European citizens of tomorrow.
