Pille Lodi from Kuressaare Gymnasium, in Estonia, reports on the European Union Youth Summit 2004 that took place in Denmark.
End of August, beginning of September I had a great opportunity to visit Denmark. I was chosen to be one of the two Estonians to represent our country during a European Union Youth Summit 2004. Everybody who was interested taking part in the Summit had to send a CV to the local Europe for Youth center. A girl from the capital of our country and I were chosen from many candidates.
I live on the biggest island of Estonia- four hours from Tallinn, from the capital. So, the trip for me started a day before the plane left, just to make sure that I will get there on time.
My friend and I flow to Copenhagen and took a train to Aalborg. We had arranged a meeting at the train station with three people going to the Summit also- a boy from Italy and two from Finland. Fours hours long train ride gave us enough time to start getting to know each other.
When we arrived at the train station in Aalborg we had one of a leader waiting for us. She drove us to a very nice youth Hostel, few minutes out of the city. We met with other people from all over the Europe. We were 28 youth all together.
Our week passed by attending workshops, group discussions, and seminars and finally we summed everything up. All the things mentioned before were built up on the European Union on different aspects like crime, the future, environment and the Euro. We had also time to do some sightseeing, shop and spend time in real Danish culture.
I have to say that I'm very happy I had chance there, besides getting to know more about the EU, I got to know many wonderful people who are my friends today.
